What I'm trying to say is that, given enough time, patience, perseverance and a knack for trying lots of crazy things over the span of weeks, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest is perfectably beatable, on the best ending, with every item obtained and every secret discovered. Some of that rubbed into me and thanks to him I got the taste for games like Zelda and Metroid. This was the game that turned my dad into a fan of "games where you investigate and discover stuff"-type of games. Naturally after that discovery we tried crouching with the crystals everywhere and that's how we discovered (my dad did) the infamous tornado that transports you to a new area.Īfter several playthroughs I got the game down to science and the best ending came naturally after that. Later on that playthrough we got to a dead end: an uncrossable river, after trying a few different things, my dad kneeled for five seconds with the red crystal and our minds were blown when the supposed river was hollow and we could jump down below. Since we didn't discover the whirlwind thing by crouching with the red crystal on our first playthrough, I just jumped over a seemingly impossibly high platform, by timing jump+whip a certain way, and we though that was the correct way to progress, for a time. We actually tried a lot of the crazy things the NPCs said to progress, though the instruction booklet stated that some of the clues were misleading or downright false so if things didn't work out we tried a different approach. I was still learning English, so we believed the NPC conversations were normal English at the time. He was the 40 year old brains and I was the 10 year old muscle. (Yesss, another one of my anecdotes incoming)Ĭastlevania 2 was my first experience with Castlevania and it was at a time when my dad still played games. But what do you think? Are you pleased with the Classicvania lineup, or are you holding out hope for a Metroidvania collection? Please share your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below. You guys who claim Castlevania 2 is impossible without a guide make me feel like I'm some kind of video game god. Although we're deeply disappointed Castlevania: Rondo of Blood didn't make the cut, we believe Castlevania: Bloodlines should make this collection a day one purchase. The Castlevania Anniversary Collection is coming to the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, XBox One, and Steam on for only $19.99. Although a sequel appeared on the Game Boy in 1993, this is the 1990 Famicom game that never launched in the West. Perhaps the most curious addition to this collection is that of Kid Dracula, a light-hearted parody of our beloved Akumajo Dracula series. But a staggering 37% of you have never played it. According to our All Things Castlevania Poll, Castlevania: Bloodlines has a 95% satisfaction rate with 40% reporting "extremely satisfied". Unlike most of the games in this collection, Castlevania: Bloodlines hasn't been ported since its original release on the Sega Genesis way back in 1994. 2 games in particular make this collection worthy of serious consideration. But Now Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, Castlevania: The Adventure, Castlevania: Bloodlines, and Kid Dracula have also been confirmed. We previously reported the inclusion of NES Castlevania, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, and Super Castlevania IV. Operation: Akumajo - Good morning Akumajo fans! After more than a month of speculation, Konami has finally revealed the last 4 games in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection.
